Colours Distributors Meeting 2005

On 11 October 2005 Colours N Motion organized a Distributors Meeting in Dusseldorf, Germany. The meeting was attended by more than 30 people representing 17 companies located all around Europe and the Mid-East.

The major goal of the meeting was to bring signed partners as well as potential partners together to exchange experience, thoughts and ideas about Colours’ products and company’s future on the European market. Other objectives were: to discuss Colours’ philosophy, to build personal contacts and to make the first steps in creating a European Colours Team.

The participants had an opportunity to meet Colours N Motion President John Box and his brother Mike, head of R&D and production, the two people who stand behind the philosophy of Colours, the ones who make things happen!

John appeared at the meeting in a flashy Boing! Wheelchair with Y-360: DOLLAR + CENTS wheels and leopard print upholstery that caught everyone’s attention. In reaction to the Boing! Someone said: PIMP MY WHEELCHAIR!

This emphasizes again that a Colours wheelchair can be classy and elegant, it can be crazy, flashy and glamorous, it can be simple or complicated but it will always be about the user, his/her needs, desires and personality! Colours philosophy is not just about providing aids for disabled it is about the people, it allows you to be creative and to express yourself.

The meeting was coordinated by Gene Emmer, Colours VP Europe. Gene welcomed everyone and gave an introduction to the meeting and participants. He discussed the resources and marketing materials available to distributors and presented a list that summarized them. Gene encouraged distributors to contact him for any resources from the list.

John Box, President Colours ’N Motion started his presentation by telling participants about Colours history and the life-changing events that gave rise to the idea of creating a company that puts customers’ satisfaction at the top of its priorities. John also provided an overview of Colours Wheelchairs pointing out characteristics that make each Colours model special.

Participants learned about competitive advantages of Colours’ wheelchairs and completely custom made model Zephyr from Mario van Bezou, President of TNS, Colours’ Distributor in The Netherlands.

Mario shared his invaluable experience of 10 years successful collaboration with Colours. He showed photos which demonstrated the wide variety of Zephyrs that he has created. As he is the most experienced designer of Zephyrs and has the longest history of working with Colours wheelchairs one can call him: Colours European Guru! His work is outstanding and inspiring!

Many current and potential distributors have received a warm welcome from Mario and his wife Jacqueline at TNS in The Netherlands where they had an opportunity to see Colours products and Mario at work. Mario’s contribution to bringing Colours into Europe has been invaluable.

“The most unbelievably crazy and amazing Zephyr designs are coming from Mario!”- said Mike Box.

Mike gave an insight into the future of Colours. He shared his thoughts about how innovations are developed and spoke of a few of the ideas on which he is working.

Participants from Kent Mobility, Colours’ exclusive distributor in the UK, told the audience about their successful launch 3 months ago in July 2005. According to John Payne, Kent Mobility’s Managing Director, though Kent had expected that the most popular model would be the affordably priced Spazz G, they have sold mostly the Boing! and the Zephyr. Carl said that the way they sell so many Boing! Wheelchairs is to offer a “test-drive”. “The Boing! practically sells itself", explained Carl . Since the Zephyr is one of the most complicated models, Carl started by limiting himself to more simple designs. Now that Carl has become comfortable with that, his designs are getting more complicated. Everyone expects that Carl will one-day become as creative as Mario.

Constructive debate frequently occured during discussion sessions. Below is a brief summary of some of the issues which were discussed as well as the outcomes. Contact Gene for more details. Participants were pleased with the hotel and with the results of the meeting. It was generally agreed that the meeting will become an annual event, though future meetings may be separate, one for signed distributors and one for potential distributors.
